Thanks to the dreams of a 16 year old girl, you can now buy, sell or trade your used formals and wedding dresses online. FormalXchange.com is a website where girls can list their dresses for sale or browse existing ads for an upcoming event, all at no cost.
Formal Dresses
FormalXchange.com first came to life in the mind of 16 year-old Kaneasha Heirtzler after shopping for her first formal gown. Kaneasha is a girl who didn't realize it was okay to be a girl until her first formal dance, Homecoming 2008. Shopping for a Homecoming formal wasn't what Kaneasha would consider a whole lot of fun, but it resulted in a jaw-dropping black and cream formal that her date could only stammered over.
Formal dress shopping has never been Kaneasha's favorite activity. She'd rather be playing volleyball, building houses or riding horses, but it had to be done and, according to Kaneasha, done better.
The need for a better way to buy formals led, in a round about way, to an idea for an online formal selling/buying/trading company. It soon became Formal Xchange LLC. There was only one problem. Kaneasha wasn't old enough to run the company herself, as Utah law prohibits minors from entering into legal agreements, so she turned to her mother and grandmother.
Working closely, the three generations formulated a business plan that would help girls buy and sell formals while providing Kaneasha with the online business she'd dreamed of. Kaneasha would continue to provide input into the business, browsing formal wear ads to ensure quality, and overseeing changes, while her mother and grandmother ran the company until her 18th birthday.
Though not the ideal set up for a girl who wanted to start her own business, Kaneasha was excited to see the multi-generation business come to life, and committed to keeping her mother and grandmother in the business long after she could legally own it herself.
After planning and contracting out to website designers, Kaneasha was able to watch her dream unfold, all while donning dresses for photo shoots and filming spots for YouTube.
Formal Dresses
Her friends watched in awe. This was a girl most often seen in camouflage pants and t-shirts, not gowns or slacks. She made it through though and even convinced several of her friends to join her in their formals to promote her site.
Formal Xchange LLC and FormalXchange.com began as an opportunity to help others find dresses they could afford while earning money from formals they would never wear again. As the brainchild of Kaneasha, she will continue to take an active roll in Formal Xchange LLC even though she can't legally own the company for nearly two more years.
