Three Types of Fatal Construction Accidents

Three Types of Fatal Construction Accidents

Construction accidents have increased in the past few years, after having dropped off significantly during the latter half of the 2000s. This trend is related to the economy, as construction activities slowed to a near halt in the United States after the real estate market collapsed in 2007 and 2008. Now that the economy has recovered, so has construction. And when construction activity increases, so do construction accidents. Work-related deaths in this industry are significantly more common than almost any other industry. In some cases, the employee's is caused by his or her own negligence, but in the vast majority of construction-related deaths, faulty equipment or poor safety practices are to blame. Fatal accidents at work sites generally fall into three main categories. Read on to learn more about each.

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

Construction Site Death from Overexertion

Many job site deaths are tied directly to overexertion. Overexertion refers not only to general exhaustion, but muscle fatigue and soft tissue injuries. Overexertion injuries can occur with behaviors as simple as lifting with your back rather than your legs. If you're on the ground when this happens, you may experience a back injury, but the chances are small that it will be life-threatening. If you are 40 stories up, however, working on a crane or scaffold, even a simple mistake can be life-threatening. Overexertion accidents are most common in hot, humid climates where dehydration and exhaustion may contribute to creating potentially fatal conditions.

Struck-By or Struck-Against Accidents

This type of incident generally involves in injury caused by equipment or machinery. Some examples include cranes, bulldozers, chainsaws, and falling materials. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 75 percent of struck-by and struck-against incidents are caused by heavy equipment. Workers may become trapped beneath vehicles or suffer fatal blows to the head from backhoe buckets or crane hooks. The noise level of a job site is a significant contributing factor, making workers unable to hear backup alarms and other safety signals. In many cases, however, unsafe operation and poor maintenance procedures are to blame. Insufficient safety training and poor supervision practices are also common causes of this type of incident.

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

Fatal Falls on the Job Site

Among all types of construction accidents, falls are the most common reason for fatalities. Workers fall to their deaths almost always as a result of safety breaches. This may involve unprotected openings in the floor, improper scaffold construction and the misuse of ladders. Falls from extreme heights are actually fairly rare because safety becomes more important on high-rise construction. Most fatal falls occur from much lower heights, often less than 20 feet. In almost every case, deaths from falls are completely preventable.

Other potentially fatal accidents can be caused by electrocution, fires, explosions and faulty equipment. After a job site accident occurs, it is critical to determine if the site was in compliance with the safety standards set forth by OSHA and if not, why not. OSHA conducts random safety inspections, and every contractor is required to be in compliance at all times. Unfortunately, many unethical contractors cut corners to save time and money, putting the lives of their employees at risk. Proper levels of diligence and care are required from all contractors to prevent construction accidents.

Conscious marketing is crucial in making your business or organization profitable and successful as it will help you develop authentic relationships with your clients, customers, and other stakeholders compared to traditional marketing. Since your conscious marketing efforts give them tremendous value, your consumers become instant voices of your brand. Last May 19, 2015 the Conscious Capitalism, Bay Area Chapter organized training for people who wants to learn effective ways to communicate with their target audience, customers or clients. The event with the title, "Conscious Marketing and Communication for Purpose Driven Leaders" was attended by executive, entrepreneur, small business owner, speaker, author, coach, trainer, consultant, or other purpose-driven leader who wants to build strong relationships with their clients, customers, and other stakeholders. Ben Gioia taught the audience how to use accurate language and help them tell their story the right way.

Some of the guests of the conscious marketing and communication training hired a professional taxi cab to help them get to the venue on time. Those who travelled from other cities booked a taxi unit in advance to make sure that there will be an instant cab to safely and conveniently transport them to San Francisco. Luxor Cab's superior taxi service made their travel hassle-free and relaxing, which made them feel relaxed and prepped for learning more about conscious marketing and communication. Their customers were really happy that the taxi unit they ordered arrived on time and brought them to the venue safe and sound. On the other hand, those guests who did not make early cab reservation used Luxor cab's innovative taxi app for flagging down cabs.

Aside from the live training the participants also received a print copy of Ben's best-selling book "Marketing With A Heart, How To Use Trust Based Marketing For Greater Income, Influence, and Impact", which is easy to read that comes with great insights and case studies that they can use for running or strategizing for the marketing campaign of their organization or business. The participants also got a direct access to a training that helps them explore the main concept of conscious marketing and proper way of sending their message to their target audience. The training complemented the things they learned from the speaker.  The training also gave them an effective framework that they can use in boosting their brand and to convince people to buy and promote your brand. The organizers of the event also give participants an access to the video recording of the entire training so people could go back to the parts of the training they missed. Moreover, the ticket in this event also includes video recordings of two Conscious Capitalism Bay Area 2015 Panel Events.

Adaptations of the Bengal Bamboo Plant

Unlike other species, the Bengal bamboo lives largely in areas that have a rainforest environment. To adjust to these conditions, these plants have made many evolutionary changes over the years. In this article, we shall study facts about the Bengal bamboo plant, such as its uses, adaptations, and much more.

Adaptation of the Bengal bamboo plant
Quick Fact
The Bengal bamboo is known to grow at exceedingly quick speeds. In fact, when the plant is young, it can sometimes grow 3 feet in less than a day. Due to this, it is rumored that Japanese soldiers used the plant as a method of torture in World War II, by growing it through their prisoners bodies.
Also known as the Calcutta cane or spineless Indian bamboo, the Bengal bamboo (Bambusa tulda) is an important grass plant to many cultures across Asia. It is culturally very significant, and also has many practical uses. This large species is characterized by long, thick, green canes, and may have 2 - 3 sections which are yellow. Its green leaves are long and narrow, and grow on opposite sides of the stem. The plant thrives in warm and moist tropical climates, and compared to other bamboos, it is easy to grow and maintain for landscape gardens.

This species of bamboo grows as an undergrowth in southeast Asian rainforest areas. The trees in these areas are tall and have wide canopies, which do not allow any sunlight to penetrate to the forest floor. This means that, as a young shoot, the bamboo plant may not get enough water and sunlight. To counter these adverse conditions, the Bengal bamboo has several structural adaptations which enable it not only to survive, but to thrive and reproduce at an exceptionally fast rate.

Characteristics and Adaptations

Like most other species, Bengal bamboos grow very quickly. However, because their rhizomes spread slowly, these plants grow in clumped groups, which helps them survive in the rainforest by protecting them from other trees and plants. This characteristic makes it useful as a semi-open screen/hedge of a garden.
As a part of its life cycle, these bamboo plants grow in large colonies. The plants of each colony grow together, flower together, and die together. This gives the next generation enough nutrition to start the process all over again, without having to compete with older plants.
In the wild, this grass can grow up to 80 feet in just 3 months under ideal conditions, with each cane having a diameter nearly 4 inches. This structure and height enables it to reach above the canopy of the rainforests to absorb the sunlight needed for photosynthesis, early in its life.
The Bengal bamboo requires a large amount of water to survive. This is why it has shallow roots, which absorb water as soon as rain hits the forest floor.
The arrangement of the vascular cells of these plants is designed to make the most of the rain that is available in the tropics. The vascular bundles are small in size, but large in number, which means that the plant exerts more pressure in the cavities, and brings more water to the top.
The plant is also composed of a high number of sclerenchyma cells, having thick walls which provide strength and support, and gives it its woody structure.

How Do Bengal Bamboo Plants Reproduce?

Although the plant is a popular choice for roomy landscape gardens, the flowers and seeds are not easily available, and the Bengal bamboo may not flower for stretches of 10 - 30 years at a time. Therefore, the preferred method of reproduction is for the root-like rhizomes to spread underground and produce new shoots, which eventually grow as separate plants.

In rare cases, when the plant does produce seeds, the reproduction process begins with the emergence of flowers on the end of its stalks. The pollen in these flowers can spread by the wind and insects, or be used to self-pollinate the same flower. This results in the production of seeds in the flower head. These seeds can grow into new plants once they mature. However, the immense amount of energy and nutrition put into creating flowers and seeds proves to be too much of a burden. In such cases, the chances of the plant dying are quite high.

Uses of the Plant

These bamboo plants absorb a large amount of carbon dioxide and release around 30% more oxygen than an equivalent area of trees, which makes them an effective option in slowing the effects of greenhouse gases and global warming.
In some countries, they are used by farmers as wind breaks.
The pulp of the Bengal bamboo is used to manufacture a large part of the paper produced in India.
These plants are also important ecologically, as they prevent soil erosion, prevent floods, and provide shelter to a large number of animals and insects.
The material from these plants can also be used to make furniture, home accessories, and for reinforcing concrete in construction projects.
A sacred flute in Bali, called the 'Eloo', is made from the Bengal bamboo.
Its strong, yet flexible structure also makes it ideal for making fishing rods.
Because it grows to its maximum height in less than 5 months, it is able to provide enough material for human use, despite wide-scale deforestation.
The Chinese giant panda depends entirely upon the Bengal bamboo for food. It is also eaten by many animals and insects, such as monkeys, gorillas, rats, red pandas, lemurs, and bamboo borer moth larvae.
Once this bamboo is harvested, it does not need to be planted again, as new shoots will soon return from the root system. Also, they don't need fertilizers or pesticides, as the fallen leaves provide enough nourishment, and the enzymes in the plant keep most pests away.
Very importantly, the Bengal bamboo has been an important part of human diet in Asian cultures for thousands of years. It is low in calories and fat, and is a good source of potassium and fiber.

Despite its high growth rate, the pressures of providing for the ever-increasing human needs has taken its toll. It is estimated that over an acre of Bengal bamboo forests are cut down every second. Therefore, this species is now considered to be endangered. Its large number of potential uses makes it essential that conservation efforts are made to protect this amazing plant.

Ethical Concerns Related to Three-Parent Babies

Evening Dresses

People opt for in vitro fertilization for a variety of reasons such as infertility, miscarriages, and even the inheritance of health disorders. In such cases, various technologies help in the conception of a viable and healthy offspring. The latest technique to be developed is that of mitochondrial donation which results in a three-parent baby. This article explains this concept and the ethical concerns related to it.

In recent times, a majority of the population leads a sedentary lifestyle. This, coupled with problems associated with stress, food and water contamination, pollution, and addictive habits (smoking, drinking, etc), has led to the increased prevalence of issues such as infertility and genetic health disorders. These issues have had a major impact on human reproductive health. However, recent advancement in the field of medical sciences has led to the development of several novel techniques and methodologies related to human reproduction and health. Collectively, they are known as assisted reproductive technology (ART). It is used to achieve pregnancy or conception via procedures like artificial insemination, fertility medications, in vitro fertilization, and surrogacy.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most commonly used method to deal with infertility and concerns related to inheritable diseases. IVF is used not only to establish successful pregnancies but also to screen the viable fetus for genetic disorders. This screening is called pre-natal or pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. It involves studying the genome of the zygote and establishing whether the offspring will develop any health disorder. In many cases, the parents often have a history of some grave genetic disease, and wish to confirm its presence/absence in the fetus. This technology helps in selecting the zygotes with the minimum chances of developing the disorder, and then implanting these zygotes in the uterus for the progression of pregnancy. However, there are a few disorders that cannot be evaded by such means. These disorders are health defects that arise due to the presence of faulty mitochondria. They are comparatively tough to resolve since genetic disorders can be evaded to a certain extent by the random selection of one parent's healthy genes over the other parent's mutated genes, but this is not so in the case of mitochondrial disorders as all progeny inherit only the mother's mitochondrial DNA (in the process of fertilization, the father only contributes his genetic material).

Hence, if the mother's mitochondria are dysfunctional, her progeny will have dysfunctional mitochondria as well, which would be exhibited in the form of myriad genetic and health disorders. To overcome this, a new technology has been developed, which is called mitochondrial donation, and it results in a three-parent baby, i.e., the baby exhibits three genetic parents.

Mitochondrial Donation

◆ In cases where the mother possesses faulty mitochondrial DNA, a specialized form of IVF is utilized so as to introduce mitochondrial DNA from a third party (another woman) into the zygote. Such a transfer of foreign mitochondrial DNA ensures that the offspring does not suffer from mitochondrial disorders. Since the mitochondrial DNA is introduced in the zygote, as and how the zygote develops, each cell of the offspring's body will possess the same mitochondria, making it a germline modification. Future progeny of this offspring (if female), will also possess healthy mitochondria. This also causes the offspring to possess three distinct genetic parents. The mother and father provide the genetic material in the form of ovum and sperm, respectively, and the donor female provides the mitochondrial DNA, in a process called three-parent in vitro fertilization (TPIVF). This technique helps in averting diseases like diabetes mellitus, deafness, Leigh syndrome, etc.

Methods Involved
This process can be carried out in two ways: pronuclear transfer (PNT) and maternal spindle transfer (MST). According to research studies involving primates and mice embryos, scientists claim that PNT may exhibit an increased risk for inadvertent transfer of faulty mitochondria along with the genetic material, but MST shows an increased risk of chromosomal abnormality. This indicates that both techniques have drawbacks of their own, and it is difficult to discern which technique is better. Hence, in case of people opting for TPIVF, the technique to be used differs on a case to case basis.

Pronuclear Transfer
◆ In this method, the maternal (patient) egg with abnormal mitochondria and the donor egg with the normal mitochondria are both separately fertilized with the paternal (patient's partner) sperm. This leads to the formation of two zygotes with a pronuclei in each (fused male and female genome). Then, the donor zygote is enucleated, i.e., the pronucleus is removed and distracted. At the same time, the pronucleus from the patient's zygote is removed and is introduced into the donor zygote with the normal mitochondria. This zygote is then allowed to progress and develop as an embryo, and is transferred to the maternal uterus after cleavage of the zygote is initiated.

Maternal Spindle Transfer
◆ In this method, the spindle and associated chromosomes are removed in the form of a karyoplast from both the maternal (patient) egg with abnormal mitochondria and the donor egg with the normal mitochondria. The karyoplast of the donor is discarded, and that of the patient is introduced into the enucleated donor egg. Once the reintroduction of karyoplast is successful, the egg is fertilized via administering an intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) using the paternal (patient's partner) sperm. Once the egg is fertilized and the zygote initiates the stages of cleavage, it can be transferred to the maternal uterus, where it develops into a healthy fetus.

Ethical Issues

► This technique involves the genetic modification of human embryos, and as such violates article 63 of the 2004 European Union Treaty, which is as follows:
In the fields of medicine and biology, the following must be respected in particular:

(a) the free and informed consent of the person concerned, according to the procedures laid down by law;
(b) the prohibition of eugenic practices, in particular those aiming at the selection of persons;
(c) the prohibition on making the human body and its parts as such a source of financial gain;
(d) the prohibition of the reproductive cloning of human beings.

► Approving such a procedure would be the critical event that initiates the descent of genetic engineering along the path of eugenics and designer/custom-made humans.

► The effects of mitochondrial manipulation are still unknown, hence it is impossible to predict the effect of the techniques. Some studies of this procedure in animals claim that no adverse effects were seen, while some others claim that the offspring exhibited accelerated aging and/or cognitive decline.

► As with any technology, there is scope for abuse, and since the technology itself is not fully understood, one cannot gauge the true scope of abuse and use. This makes it difficult to ascertain whether the technique will prove harmful or beneficial in the long run.

► The procedure of egg/ovum extraction could have an adverse effect on the patient and the donor. The risks include bone ache, seizures, ovarian damage, etc.

► Since it is a germline modification, any error during the technique would create a long-lasting effect that would be heritable in nature.

► Mitochondrial and nuclear DNA mismatch could lead to a vast range of developmental problems such as infertility and cancer.

► The transfer of nuclear DNA from one egg to another might disrupt the epigenetic programming of the genetic material, causing it to function erratically, resulting in genetic dysfunction.

► Carryover of the abnormal mitochondrial DNA into the donor egg could result in causing the very diseases the technique was meant to prevent.

► Mitochondrial DNA does not merely function as the "battery" of our cells (metabolism), but has been known to influence the expression of certain phenotypic traits. Hence this technique may introduce errors in phenotype expression in the fetus.

► The child obtained via such a procedure may have an increased likelihood of suffering from an identity disorder, since its genetic makeup is different from that of its contemporaries.

► The three-parent child may not be able to donate or receive blood, bone marrow, or organs due to its unique genetic (triad) origins.

► The technique is new and experimental, and hence would have a high cost. This could lead to the formation of a divide between the wealthy parts of society that can afford it and the poor sections of society that cannot.

► The disparity in affording the procedure could also lead to the exploitation of poor females as donors. This could also increase the difference in health status between the rich and poor.

Recently in February 2015, the U.K. Government after extensive discussion with the Department of Health and Nuffield Council of Bioethics regarding the Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 2008 (HFEA 2008), has approved the use of this procedure to produce three-parent babies. The approval will take effect from October 2015. This decision was greeted with enthusiasm and jubilation, as the prevalence of mitochondrial diseases in the British population is quite concerning. According to population surveys, at least one in 200 live births has faulty mitochondrial DNA and almost 100 to 150 births per year risk the passing of mitochondrial disease on to the child.

Full Lace Wigs - Knots Explained

Full lace wigs - Knots explained

There are varoius different knots that are used when creating a full lace
wig. To help buyers make an informed decision, it is useful to know what the
different knots mean and what the pros and cons are for each different knot
option.

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

Single Knots

Single knots are a popular option for full lace wigs. The process involves
taking the hair, one strand at a time, and hand tieing it into the lace unit
using a single knot. The single knot produced a very realistic apperance, as
if the hair is growing out of the scalp. On the downside, single knots are
not as secure which makes the full lace wig prone to shedding. This can
result in bald patches on the wig, where the lace becomes visible.
Overview - Less visable upon closer inspection, prone to shedding

Double Knots

Double knots are when 2 or more hairs are taken and the hair is hand tied
using 2 knots to secure it to the lace base of the wig. Double knots are
more visable upon closer inspection which is not ideal for trying to create
a realistic hairline, parting or crown section to the full lace wig. On the
up side, double knots are more secure than single knots, so shedding is less
of an issue with the double knot.

Overview - More visable upon closer inspection, less likely to shed

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

Triple/Reversed (Hidden knots)
The triple/Reversed (Hidden) knot is one of the newest techniques in how
hair is tied into a full lace wig base. Hair is taken and hand tied
inbetween an insert (usually silk) and the lace base of the wig. The knot is
tied 3 times, making it very secure and unlikely to shed. Because the knot
is hidden between the lace and the silk insert, the knot becomes invisible,
making it look as if it is actually growing straight out of your scalp when
your wearing the wig.Triple/Reversed (hidden knots) are an extreamly good
option for the front of the wig, where the hairline is, your parting
sections and sometimes at the crown section of the wig. The back and sides
of the wig could then be made with double knots which, as detailed above,
provide a strong attachment of the hairs within the lace unit.

In order to excel in your school studies, the very first step is to realize
the difference between studying and learning. Learning is a natural mental
activity that makes you to get familiar with certain ideas and theory and
their practical usage. It is quite different from the study process which
doesn't involve any active mental process rather it requires you to rote
memorize things as they are mentioned in the course books.

Rote memorizing is not the right approach to learn things and ideas. If you
really want to attain knowledge about a subject, your approach towards
learning needs to be holistic. You need to increase your ability to
interlink the ideas of various study material and to practice it in your
mind so that the ideas, facts and theory may naturally get imprinted on your
mind. By doing so, you will not only be able to get better grades at school,
but also, you will be able to make better and practical usage of your
education.

There are many e-books available that will provide you various techniques to
memorize things, lists, theories, and a lot more. Yet, none of such books
actually make you familiar with the means of learning. They try to help you
in increasing your ability to memorize things without actually understanding
them. Such strategies often fail to help you get better grades in school
examinations. This is so because when you try to memorize ideas and theory
without understanding them and making them your own ideas, you will remain
prone to forget them or to commit mistake while copying the things that you
stored in your memory. The learning process has nothing to do with
memorizing things. In order to attain better grades at school you should try
to learn more study less.

How to learn to get better grades

The correct way of learning is to break the study material in into easily
understandable and practical partitions. Once you do so, you will be able to
visualize the interlinking between the whole study materials. As you will
start understanding the initial bits of your course, you will increase your
potential to learn further with the help of the familiarity of the ideas of
the study material. There is a good e-book that offers some of the best
possible learning strategies to teach you how to learn more and study less

History of the Hebrew Language and How Best To Translate It

History of the Hebrew Language and How Best To Translate It

FORMAL DRESSES

The Hebrew language is a traditional Semitic one, used in the time of the Old Testament. Biblical Hebrew is frequently known as Classical Hebrew and has been traced back to the tenth century BC to the dominions of Judah and Israel.

Hebrew wasn't spoken much over the centuries, although it was used extensively as a literary language and as the liturgical language of Judaism. Many dialects of Classical Hebrew (sometimes called Medieval Hebrew) existed at the time, including the Midrashic Hebrew of the third century BC.

Employed in the Mishna and found in the Dead Sea Scrolls corresponding to the Hellenistic and Roman Periods before the annihilation of the Church in Jerusalem. The Babylonian Gemorrah, written about this time, was usually drafted in the Aramaic language and utilized a certain quantity of Greek words as well.

It was only at the start of the 19th century that Modern Hebrew became the written and spoken language of the Jewish folk. It is easy to understand how troublesome it can be to interpret Hebrew into any other language. The modern kind of the language is an accumulation of different dialects and colloquialisms. It includes words from plenty of other languages eg the romance languages of French, Spanish and Italian as well as Greek, Yiddish and Arabic. Additionally, during the past century, many English words became an important part of both written and spoken Hebrew. The Hebrew language is always developing, with new words being added when required. Additionally, Modern Hebrew has many local ideas and terms that maintain their meaning just when employed in the right context and will otherwise lead to misunderstandings and misinterpretations. As an example, many years back, when the film industry in Israel was first taking off, the Hebrew flicks used subtitles in one or two languages in order to appeal to as many different motion picture goers right now.

FORMAL DRESSES

These subtitles were customarily inaccurate and completely reduced the dialog of the characters in the flick.

An automatic translation software programme, while quicker and cheaper, will successfully interpret only the words of the text and will leave out a lot of the true personality of the Hebrew words and sentences. A manual translator, ideally one who has lived in Israel, who is accomplished in the 2 languages, will inject the true nature and flavour of the language into his interpretation. Yes, it is more expensive, but if precision is needed, manual translation is the only possible way to go.

LOL (Laughter as an Anti-aging Tool)

FORMAL DRESSES

Although not one of my "prouder" moments, I still have to smile, or even laugh out loud, at a time in high school when Tom M. and I smoked pot before an "Oklahoma" musical practice. (I should mention that here in Colorado I think everyone smokes pot except for me. I asked a friend at work the other day how many people in CO. who smoke pot have a medical mariuana license. She said about 10%. Then I asked her how many people who have a medical mariuana license actual need it for medical purposes and she said about 10%. I thought that was pretty funny). Anyway, back to high school musical practice...

Tom and I had a part where just the two of us interacted verbally in this one scene. I started laughing which got Tom laughing and we had a hard time stopping. Even the director and other students were laughing...a little.

The problem was that when Tom and I regained our composure it only lasted until the next "take". Everytime we tried to complete this simple and short dialogue we totally lost it. It got to the point where the director was making us do it over and over again to punish us! Which made us laugh even more. I think even our fellow actors and actresses were getting tired of our shananigans, and probably even more irritated with the director.

I don't personally smoke pot or anything else, anymore. It's been three decades (give or take 14 years) since I engaged in such a past time. But, I have not quit laughing! No sir, no maam, no way! I still laugh more than the average person...a lot more.

I have this tendancy to creat a SNL skit in my head about random things and can often find myself laughing out loud in the car. I make jokes at work, on the trail, in the restaurant and even at the library. I also laugh heartily at other people's "funnies". I am a great friend because I will always laugh at your jokes. I totally love witty people who weave humor in and out of every comment.

A recent survey claimed that men smile 8 times per day compared with women who smile 20-30 times per day. I probably smiled ten times just writing this post, not including twice at the library staff. (I sometimes use the library computer if I do not need my own hard drive available).

For awhile I kinda got sick of seeing LOL everywhere I looked. But all in all, LOL is good and, most important to all you frowny faces who complain too much, laughing is one of the ten best alternative therapies for fighting disease and healing after sugery and making friends.

According to the Mayo Clinic and, other institutional studies, laughing, relaxing and socializing make you feel better and also have an anti-aging effect on the body itself!

Laughing in a healthy way (it's not funny to laugh at disease, pain, suffering and mean icky stuff) will improve your ability to stay calm in tense moments.

Laughing helps to curb a firey temper. It expands your view of things and allows you to think first.

Laughing exercises important face muscles and even muscles in the upper torso.

Laughing fights stress and its effect on the physical body.

It's no laughing matter, you are getting younger, and better!

Are Sherbet and Sorbet the Same?

Sorbets are probably the first iced dessert created by Asians, and later brought to Italy and the Middle East. Sherbet is sorbet's American cousin that has milk or cream in small amounts, invented for enhancing purposes. This Buzzle article has jotted down the differences between sorbet and sherbet.
Difference between sherbet and sorbet
Not a Second Spelling!
Sherbert is one of the most commonly mispronounced and misspelled words. Though it does find mention in some dictionaries, the standard spelling is Sherbet with one 'r' in it.
Summers are here, along with the cravings for frozen delights. This made us curious to know about various sugary, frozen desserts, starting with sorbets, the childhood favorite of all. Okay, let's go about it this way: Ice cream is a smooth, soft frozen dessert that contains a minimum of 3% milk fat. Sherbet is a fruity frozen dessert that contains butterfat anywhere between 1 - 2%. Sorbet is made of simply fruit juices, syrup or water, and has no milk fat! So basically, the order of these sugary treats is,
Sorbet < Sherbet < Ice cream.
Evening Dresses
However, the legal definitions of sorbet and sherbet are used interchangeably, and many times, even considered to be the same. Not just this, to add to the confusion, in some parts of the world, the term 'sherbet' is also referred to a fizzy powder stirred into drinks. Similarly, sorbet is often confused with Italian ice. We don't want to add any more confusion, let's just get straight to the differences between sorbet and sherbet in the post below.

Sorbet vs. Sherbet
➤ Sorbet is a frozen dessert prepared by raw or puréed fruit that's churned and then frozen.
➤ It's devoid of milk and its products so it can be considered as a lighter, icier version of ice cream.
➤ Sherbet is a frozen sweet dessert similar to sorbet but richer than it due to milk [1% - 2%], egg whites or gelatin.
➤ It is still lighter than ice cream.

Ingredients
➤ Sorbet consists of two main ingredients: fruit and sugar. However, additional flavorings, water, or liqueur may be added. It doesn't contain any dairy product.
➤ Sherbet involves dairy products like cream, milk, or even buttermilk and other ingredients like egg whites and gelatin.

Consistency
➤ Sorbets have softer consistency than sherbets. However, the smoothness also depends on the secondary ingredients.
➤ Sherbets tends to take a rigid shape comparatively.

Nutritional Info

➤ Sorbet is a low-fat option for those with a sweet 'frozen' tooth.
➤ Sherbet is higher in fats and calcium than sorbet, though, a low-fat option for ice cream lovers.

Vacation Inspiration: 4 weeks backpacking in the Middle East

Vacation Inspiration: 4 weeks backpacking in the Middle East

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

A backpacking adventure in the Middle East can be eye-opening, exciting, and at times challenging. As you explore sites of immense religious, cultural and historical significance, you will further your education and gain insights into other less familiar cultures and ways of life. Backpacking through the Middle East is never short of an adventure and you're likely to experience some incredible hospitality, sample some delectable cuisine and meet some fascinating people along the way.

Fly into Istanbul in Turkey, a city at the crossroads of East and West. The perfect introduction to the Middle East, Istanbul is both westernised and familiar, while at the same time it's exotic and enchanting.  After a good few days haggling in the grand bazaar and marvelling at the architecture, head by comfortable overnight bus to Cappadocia.

Cappadocia: The natural beauty of Central Turkey is breathtaking. Goreme is a good base for a few days sampling delicious Turkish cuisine, walking through the spectacular landscape of "fairy chimney" rock formations and exploring churches cut in rock by the early Christians.

From Cappadocia, head to Antakya for your final night in Turkey before heading over the border by bus to Aleppo in Syria.

Aleppo: Syria probably contains almost everything that comes to mind when you think of the Middle East: Legendary Arabic hospitality, mouth-watering mezze, conservative Islam and rich history and culture. The people here are some of the friendliest in the world, and to really get a feel for the place, spend some time in the cafes and markets (souks). Around every corner, there seems to be a point of historical interest, but just observing the culture and chatting to the locals can be an experience in itself.

Damascus: A must on any Middle Eastern traveller's itinerary. A few days can be spent in the coffee shops and souks of Damascus, sipping intense Arabic coffee to the sound of the Muslim call to prayer. The Umayyad Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the world and the architectural beauty is awe-inspiring.

Palmyra: If you're into ruins, you won't want to skip Palmyra. These ruins of one of the ancient world's most important centres of culture are located at an Oasis in the Syrian Desert, and you can get there by bus or taxi from Damascus.

From Damascus, head south and cross into Jordan. Sharing a taxi is relatively easy in Damascus and is a great opportunity to make friends with the locals. Catch a ride in Damascus heading for Amman in Jordan.

HUMAN HAIR WIGS

Amman: After a day or two exploring this fascinating, hospitable city of contrasts between old and new, continue south by bus to the UNESCO world heritage site of Petra.

Petra: Jordan's greatest tourist attraction is the vast rock-carved Nabataean city of Petra. Marvel at the awe-inspiring carvings, dazzling red colours and beautiful rock formations as you explore the Petra valley on foot, or on horseback or by camel.

Aqaba: From Wadi Musa (the town to use as base for visiting Petra), head by bus to the Jordanian Red Sea resort of Aqaba. From here, you'll have access to some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world and the timeless crimson beauty of the Wadi Rum natural landscape. Wadi Rum is virtually untouched by humanity and can be explored by 4x4 vehicle or camel. You can arrange to stay with the local Bedoiun people, spending a night in a tent after a traditional campfire meal.

Into Israel: Allow plenty of time for the border crossing into Israel. It can be helpful to have a clear idea of where you're heading in Israel and what you hope to do there. Be patient and polite and once the border formalities are done, you'll want to jump in a taxi and head to the Israeli resort of Eilat.

Eilat: After a couple of weeks in the Arabic countries of Jordan and Syria, Eilat will be a major culture shock. You can see the Jordanian flag and the town of Aqaba from the beach in downtown Eilat but it feels like a different world. Eilat is an Israeli beach resort, with westernised restaurants, bars and nightlife. If sun, sea, sand and partying is your thing, you'll want to linger for a few days in Eilat.

Jerusalem: The centre of three major world religions, Jerusalem is like nowhere else on Earth. The old city contains sites of huge historic and cultural significance to Jews, Christians and Muslims. A visit to Jerusalem provides an opportunity to explore sites of historic and religious interest, while also gaining an understanding of the background and the issues surrounding the present-day conflict.

Dead Sea: Easily accessible from Jerusalem, Ein Gedi is an Oasis on the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. Due to the salt content, the human body will float on the Dead Sea, an experience not to be missed.

Galilee: Travelling around Israel is comfortable and straightforward and a trip north to Galilee provides opportunity to explore the area where Jesus lived and taught, including the Mount of Beatitudes (where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount) and the Sea of Galilee.

Tel Aviv: Known as ‘the city that doesn't stop' because of its reputation for partying, Tel Aviv is the heart of secular Israel and the economic and commercial centre. The highlight is the sandy Mediterranean coastline and the fantastic beach scene where you can relax for a day or two before boarding your flight home.

Assuming you travel independently as a backpacker, this 4 week itinerary through the Middle East is likely to cost in the region of $1500-$2000 if you travel and share rooms with a partner and in the region of $2400-$2700 if you travel on your own.

Fly Fishing Tips for Beginners

Fly Fishing Tips for Beginners

FORMAL DRESSES

As you embark on your journey to learn about fly fishing, you will probably pick up a trick or two to be a better fly fisher. Below are some more tips to help you learn about fly fishing and getting the fish to bite.

Fish are very flighty creatures. They use camouflage, their surroundings and deep waters to protect themselves. These are prime spots for fishing. Cast you line on the deep parts of the stream or lake or on shady parts where fish can be covered from predators.
Walk slowly and carefully. Fish gets spooked easily by any kind of movement around them. They get afraid and may decide to swim away if they feel a predator coming.

Select the correct fly for the fish you intend to catch. Some fish like their food to be in a particular part of the water i.e. on the surface, just below the surface or completely below the surface. Create a fly using this information.
Fly selection can be matched with the seasons. During the fall and winter, the light is not as bright as the summer. Choose a fly that is a bit darker for these days. For summer, when the sun is at its brightest, choose bright colored fly.
Find a place on the river or stream where the current is slower. Fish tend to like slower current as it takes less effort for them to fight the current and swim through.
Start with a 9 foot leader (a leader is the section between the line and the lure) and progress as you know more about fly fishing.
Check your hooks for sharpness especially after you have been using it for quite some time. Like any sharp metal, hooks also lose sharpness as you use it.
Practice pulling on fish by tying your line onto a post or a tree. This is especially important for bigger fishes as it lets you practice how to bear the weight of the fish.

FORMAL DRESSES

Protect yourself with proper clothing and sunscreen. You can use waders to keep your pants dry while you are fishing in shallow waters. Put on sunscreen and a hat in order to protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun.
Take note of fishing season. In some areas, you are only allowed to fish at a particular time of the year. This allows for fish to multiply and increase in numbers. Ask the locals when the best time to fish. Some areas also ask for permits or a pass before you can fish.
Practice casting on dry land. Practice casting anywhere there is a big space.
Don't forget to bring a digital camera. If you find yourself catching a huge fish, you'd want to document it.
Try to fish with a buddy. Some people prefer the solitary of fly fishing. But times are dangerous and a buddy who knows the fishing spots well can help you escape from harm if you need to.

There are so many references and videos on the internet to help you learn more about fly fishing. Learn from the pros by watching how they do it. Happy fishing!

Why you should do it yourself?

Why you should do it yourself?

FORMAL DRESSES

Despite what you might think, the main reason people undertake household renovations or construction tasks themselves is not simply to save money (or at least it shouldn't be).

Though it is in many cases possible to save yourself a few bucks by whipping out your tool belt and fitting your new kitchen by yourself, many choose to undertake these projects themselves because of the satisfaction they know they'll get when the project is done, to learn a new skill or (if you're anything like me) they are simply a little compulsive and don't trust anyone else.

Let's take a look at these reasons in a little more detail…

Cost-effective / Save Money

OK, so as I said above, it is indeed possible to save a few bucks (or substantial amounts for that matter) by embarking on these projects yourself… let's take a bookcase as an example, (in my mind) there are x3 ways you can add a bookshelf to your living space.

You can go to any furniture store and buy a solid wood, hand-crafted, gold-leaf-treated, dipped in caramel, bookshelf that's already assembled and have it delivered right to your living room. That's it, done and dusted; you've got your shiny new bookcase. But you've spent an arm and a leg in the process.

You can give a local carpenter a call and ask him to design and build you one especially. He'll then come to your home, measure up, sketch a design, go away to source materials, part-build at his workshop, come to your home to fit/assemble and then hand you a whopping bill. Once again, boom, you've got yourself a smashing new bookcase… but no longer have a pension plan.

Number 3 comes in two parts in my mind, the first option is to nip to ikea buy a generic flat-pack bookcase before coming home to spend hours trying to translate the so-called instructions to assemble yourself, once complete you've got yourself a nice new bookcase and it hasn't cost the Earth. OR - and this is without a doubt my favourite of the x3 options, you can actually take the time to DIY…

FORMAL DRESSES

Sketch what you want your design to look like, take some measurements, draw up a plan, get the materials yourself and actually get stuck in! This option is by far my favorite as not only have you got the shiny new bookcase you wanted, you have the satisfaction of knowing that it was your blood, sweat and tears that went into creating it, you've saved yourself a few bucks and you've learnt a new skill. The benefits really are three-fold.

Learn a new skill

This brings me onto my next point… by doing it yourself you learn a new skill, and in today's competitive employment world, can you ever have too many?

This reminds me of a little anecdote I'm going to share with you… A friend of mine, an IT professional, who spent his days sitting in front of his computer writing lines of code for computer programs, found himself in a similar situation to that which I'm sure you're in now. He wanted to remodel his kitchen, and with a pretty decent job, it would have been no skin off his nose to pay a professional to design and fit.

However, for whatever reason (perhaps one of those we're talking about today), he opted to design and fit himself. A few weeks, a multitude of YouTube's how-to videos, countless articles and a broken thumb later, he achieved what I would consider to be an absolutely stunning kitchen. His new-found passion for DIY did not stop there, he went on to remodel his bathroom and basement, redo his garden and even undertake DIY jobs for his family and friends. Now, this former IT professional, owns a prestigious household remodeling company, making him x3 times his IT salary.

By taking the chance and opting to DIY, you expand your personal and professional horizons - once again, I feel this truly is invaluable, especially if you begin learning at a young age. These skills can be taken, developed and utilized and potentially lead to incredibly fulfilling careers.

A Little Compulsiv

OK, so as I mentioned above, I'm a little compulsive and find delegating tasks to others challenging… especially strangers. Please don't misunderstand what I'm about to say… I know the world is full of incredibly talented and professional contractors, who will undertake your project and deliver exactly what you wanted and more. However, even with all the reviews and pictures in the world, you won't truly know what to expect from your contractor, until he has actually begun.

You hear terrifying stories of people who handover their life savings to contractors, only to be left with gaping holes in their roof, light switches that shock them every time they turn on a light or a toilet that showers you every time you flush.

By undertaking your household renovations and DIY projects yourself, you don't risk letting those dodgy fly-by-night contractors in your home.

OK, so there is no denying that you're going to make mistakes, and could well end up with one of the problems mentioned above anyway, but you haven't handed over bundles of cash for the pleasure. What's more, it's just another opportunity to learn!

So there we have it, reasons to take a risk and take on your next household renovation project DIY style.

Is the Moon Hollow?

Evening Dresses
Evening Dresses
Could our Moon be hollow, with alien creatures living inside? Well, that is what one popular theory would tell you. Click here to learn more about the origins and claims of this theory, and to find out what present-day science has to say about it.
Spaceship moon theory
Coincidence or an Alien Hand at Work?
In one of the most striking of cosmic coincidences, the Moon is about 400 times smaller than the Sun, and is also about 400 times closer to the Earth. This fact makes both these heavenly bodies appear to be of the same size, and also results in the phenomenon of total solar eclipses taking place.
The Apollo moon landing missions were surely a giant leap for mankind. However, apart from being the first set of missions to take men to the Moon, there was something else about one particular mission―Apollo 12, launched in November 1969―which was equally significant, not to mention absolutely bizarre! It was what took place when NASA decided to crash one of the spent lunar modules on the Moon's surface.
Evening Dresses
Scientists wanted to find out what the geological make-up of the Moon was like. So they devised an experiment which involved the use of seismic sensors to measure lunar vibrations. Once these sensors were in place on the Moon's surface, scientists had a spent rocket lift-off stage crash onto it. The module impacted the lunar surface with a force equivalent to a one-ton TNT bomb, and created its own crater. What the seismic sensors subsequently recorded, however, sent the whole of NASA ringing!

When the collision happened, the Moon literally rang like a bell for more than half an hour. This phenomenon was highly unexpected, and much to the contrary of what would have happened on a planet like the Earth. This extraordinary event led many to wonder that, since the Moon rang like a bell, could it also be hollow like one?

The Hollow Moon Theory

In the early 20th century, long before the Apollo missions, science fiction had already begun playing with the possibility of the Moon being hollow, and even inhabited by aliens. H.G. Wells's book 'The First Men in The Moon' (1901) and Edgar Rice Burrough's 'The Moon Maid' (1922) are a couple of examples of fictional stories that involved the existence of a hollow Moon. While initially this idea was given no more importance than flying castles and talking cats, after the Apollo incident, it began to take root, even among some of the members of the scientific community.

In 1970. a couple of Soviet scientists proposed to the world that the Moon that we see illuminated on our night skies is in fact the exterior shell of a hollow alien spacecraft, designed by extra-terrestrials possessed of a far greater intelligence and much more advanced technology than we humans have. This gave birth to the so-called 'Spaceship Moon' theory, which is the most popular of the theories which claims that the Moon is a hollow sphere.

Spaceship Moon Theory

The Spaceship Moon Theory was put forth by Michael Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov, who were members of the former Soviet Academy of Sciences. It is therefore also known as the Vasin-Shcherbakov Theory.

In the strict sense of the word, the Spaceship Moon cannot be called a theory, as it hasn't yet been verified. More appropriately, it is only a hypothesis, which proposes that the Moon is either entirely hollow with a thin shell, or at least has a substantial amount of empty interior space. More peculiar however is its proposition - that aliens made our Moon and put it where it is today.

In July 1970, Vasin and Shcherbakov wrote an article titled 'Is Moon the Creation of an Alien Intelligence?'. In it, they theorized that the Moon was actually a planetoid, which was hollowed-out by hyper-intelligent aliens with the help of their advanced technology. They conjectured that these aliens used large machines built to operate on a planetary scale to melt the rocky interior of the Moon, forming large cavities within it. The molten rock (lava) formed as a result, spurt out, and spread onto to the lunar surface, which then resulted in the formation of the outer shell comprising metallic, rocky slag.

Thus, the aliens effectively made a spacecraft that had a hollow interior which became the hull. This hull was covered by the hard rocky shell, which in fact is the Moon that is visible to us today.

After that, for reasons undefined, the aliens put this Moon spaceship that they had created into orbit around the Earth, where it can be seen revolving till date. Some speculate that these aliens might have actually seeded life on our planet by transporting it to the Earth, via this spaceship Moon.

Supportive Suggestions

While clearly the Spaceship Moon theory tickles one's common sense in the wrong way, there are some suggestions cited by the authors which they claim are supportive of their theory.

The primary suggestion which was used heavily by Vasin and Shcherbakov is that, the lunar craters, especially the large ones which are traditionally believed to have been formed due to meteor impacts, are actually too shallow, and have flat or even convex bottoms. This suggestion, it is claimed, proves the existence of a solid inner hull. While the smaller meteors make small craters, with depths proportional to the sizes of the meteors, the larger ones tend to drill through the outer rocky lunar shell, until they collide with the high-tensile impenetrable alien-made hull underneath, which halts their progress and destroys them.

Another proposed supportive suggestion is that, the moon comprises mainly chromium, titanium, and zirconium, which is a significantly different composition to that of the Earth. This suggestion, they claim, negates the commonly accepted conventional theory that the Moon was a part of the Earth, which broke apart during a planetary collision.

The authors of the Spaceship Moon theory have also noted that some of the rocks on the Moon are older than the oldest ones on the Earth. This again is thought to prove that the Moon has a much older and more interesting history than we believe.

Substance Behind the Theory

While the suggestions put forth by the authors do seem intriguing, none of them have been verified till date. The scientific community, en masse, actually frowns at the Spaceship Moon theory, considering it to be no more than a figment of an overactive imagination. However, it isn't that there have been no supporters for it.

In 1975, Don Wilson published 'Our Mysterious Spaceship Moon', in which he compiled a number of supportive facts which he regarded were in favor of this theory. However, this publication garnered very little attention from scientists.

In 1976, George H. Leonard gathered a number of NASA photographs of the actual lunar surface, and published them in 'Someone Else is on the Moon'. Leonard claimed that huge alien machinery was visible in these published photographs. However, readers in general haven't been able to discern it.

So is the Moon Hollow Inside?

Suniti Karunatillake of Cornell University explains that the normalized polar moment of inertia of the Moon is 0.393 ± 0.001. This value is very near to that of a solid object (0.4) which has a radially constant mass-density. For reference, the normalized polar moment of inertia of the Earth is 0.33.

He also says that an extensive amount of seismic measurement data has been collected from the Moon. The scientific analysis of it has provided a near-accurate estimate of the thickness of the Moon's crust, mantle, and core, and it conclusively proves that the Moon cannot be hollow.

Karen Masters of the University of Portsmouth further states that, through analysis of the behavior of objects under the influence of the Moon's gravitational field, the mass of the Moon has been determined. Considering its observable size, its density has been calculated, which strongly negates any possibility of the Earth's natural satellite being hollow.

Why are its Craters Shallow and Rocks Old?

Lunar craters are shallow may actually be what the Spaceship Moon theory suggests, albeit minus the involvement of an alien hand. As is known, the composition of the Moon comprises hard elements such as iron and titanium in abundance. Their concentration could be more pronounced below the surface. As such, though small meteors might be able to drill lunar craters proportional in depth to their sizes, larges ones collide with the highly stronger interior layer, which impedes their progress. The geological activity, particularly lava, can explain why some craters have a flat or bulging convex bottom.

Studies on the rocks brought back from the Moon have indeed shown that they are much older than the oldest ones found on the Earth. However, scientists attribute this to the fact that while the Earth is geologically active forming newer rocks, the Moon is practically dead. As such, the surface rocks found on the Earth are younger than the ones found on the dead lunar surface.

Why Does its Composition Differ from the Earth's?

If the Moon was indeed a part of the Earth, it should have nearly the same composition too. However, the fact is that, it doesn't; specifically, it lacks the significant iron core that the Earth has. But that doesn't necessarily mean that it was created by aliens and put into its orbit. The Giant Impactor theory offers a much more possible explanation.

This theory states that, at the time of the formation of our solar system, a small planet, roughly the size of Mars, which formed elsewhere in the universe and had a very different composition to the Earth's, got into a collision course with young Earth. The great impact lead to the ejection of a large amount of heated matter from the surface of both the objects. This matter began orbiting the Earth, and subsequently stuck together, forming our Moon.

Why Does it Ring?

The simple answer to this is because Earth has water. Water weathers the stones, expanding the different structures of the minerals in it, thus weakening it. When energy in the form of seismic vibrations due to meteor impact, thermal activity, etc., propagates through these stones, they behave as compressible structures similar to sponges. Thus, they are able to dampen the vibrations, as a result of which even the biggest Earthquake doesn't last longer than a few minutes.

The Moon, on the other hand, is a dry, solid, rigid mass of stone and iron. Therefore, without any dampening agent, even relatively small meteor impacts or Moon-quakes set it vibrating like a tuning fork. These vibrations tend to last for a much longer time than any on Earth. However, it doesn't have to mean that the Moon is hollow.

Thus, the fact remains that, as yet, there is no hard scientific evidence that supports the Hollow Spaceship Moon hypothesis. Since the Apollo Moon landings, and the subsequent manned and unmanned lunar missions, a lot of information about this natural satellite of ours has been gathered, which scientists believe contradicts this theory altogether. However, still, a number of proponents exist, who continue to subscribe to the theory that our Moon is hollow, and was made, and put there in our night sky by alien hands.
